One Weekend Getaway, priceless.
Riky took me away for our 11th Anniversary. He does read my blog sometimes and we decided to take some of the money that I got for my birthday and go away for a night of rest and relaxation. No one under 29 allowed. ~~I'd say 30, but since I am a cradle robber (according to you know who) I have to include those of us who are still in their *sigh* 20s~~We dropped the boys and our little Spanish friend off with Sherri and her brood and Riky whisked me away for a night in the mountains. With plumbing. I prefer plumbing. We have been to the mountains more times than I can count with no plumbing and I don't really find it relaxing. I remember taking Jeffrey into his first outhouse shortly after we had potty trained him. He looked down and started to scream this blood curdling, ear piercing, scream that echoed off of the sides of the *smelly hole* and he began to backpedal into me. I almost fell over into previously mentioned *smelly hole* He refused to go near it for the rest of the trip. When he walked down wind of the *hole* his entire body would tense up and he would move in double time. He christened every tree around our camping area and held everything else for 2 days, until we got back to civilization. It was memorable, to say the least. Anyway, back to the getaway. We took our time getting to our destination. We had lunch at a drive in along the way. It was greasy, messy, and reminded me of bar food. Oh, so yummy! We then traveled at a leisurely pace to our destination--Cooke City, MT. It was wonderful. Our room was small and quaint. I loved every moment of it. We walked uptown, downtown, and across town in about 15 minutes. We had dinner with no crayons at the table. We didn't spill one single thing! And we didn't have to ask for extra napkins--just in case. It was fabulous. Riky's friend, Josh, had loaned us some maps with different hiking trails and we decided to tackle one on the first day called Wedding Falls. I thought that it was appropriate because it was our anniversary, after all. It only took 10 minutes to get to and it had just rained, so everything was fresh and clean and perfect. The waterfall was pretty neat, but the company was spectacular. As I have previously said, I love my boys, but there is definitely something special about my man. All of those who know us know that Riky loves to laugh. I love to talk. These thing mix perfectly into me saying something silly just to make him laugh. I know that I have a decent sense of humor and he has a sensitive funny bone, so it makes for one fun time when I am on my game, and this weekend, I was! We laughed so much my cheeks hurt by Saturday. --Back to the trip. We left the motel at 9am and had coffee and breakfast at a cute little shop with room for about 15 tables and two waitresses...Riky bought a day fishing pass for Wyoming and I started pouring over Josh's trail maps. I discovered the wonders of boat docks. What I mean by this is that I only packed flip-flops for foot wear and Riky wanted to go fishing. While perusing the maps of lakes and lake accesses, I put two and two together and realized that you have to drive to a boat dock. That means that Riky could fish and I didn't have to walk far in my flips. It was the perfect combo. I found a lake called Lilly Lake that had a boat dock. We drove right up to it and then were able to walk around part of the lake without any problem. It was wonderful. I spent about an hour chasing a dragonfly down because I wanted to take a picture of it with water lilies in the back ground. Riky fished, but to no avail. We think that Wyoming fish are not the brightest fish around, but he did have fun. We then went on to three other lakes as we slowly wandered down the mountain. The weather was perfect until we got off of the mountain. Then it began to rain, but I had prayed for us to just be able to get past the switchbacks before the rain hit, so that was a blessing also. I hate switchbacks. Hate them, hate them, hate them. :( I told Riky that if I would have had to drive, he could have beat me walking off of the mountain. Every muscle in my body tenses when I even sense that there is nothing but sheer drop off next to me. I Hate them. I tighten my seat belt every 3-5 seconds (because I am determined that they will find my body strapped to the wreckage at the bottom of the drop off--I don't want Search and Rescue having to waste any time looking for me after already having to locate the wreckage itself--see how considerate I am?) Riky thinks that it is hilarious. I am constantly checking his speed compared to the bright yellow hazard signs that I believe were place there so graciously to give us the maximum speed at which to take the next series of turns. Riky says that they are "suggestions for those tourists who are from places like Nebraska where there are no hills to draw any experience from" I beg to differ, but he is driving, so there is not much that I can do, except make sure that I am securely strapped to said wreckage and that my seat is in an upright position. He tells me to close my eyes, but then I feel like I am going to throw up--right before I die, I might add. I spend most of the ride through the mountains making sure that he will tell the boys that I love them if, by chance, he makes it and I don't. I ask him if he wants me to jot down anything inspiring for the boys, just in case the Search & Rescue pull my mangled body from the wreckage and manage to resuscitate me, and ~~ he Laughs. Can you believe that? He has no parting words of wisdom, not one. Just Laughter. Mocking as it is. Well we did make it off of the mountain and got back to pick up the boys and their little Spanish friend and if you click here, you will find out the rest of the story. So, thanks for stopping by and Hey, have a fabulous day!
