I have been so very busy lately working on the newsletter and bible study material for our church's preteen ministry that I have neglected this blog. For that I am sorry, but I can't say that I will do better and be honest with myself. So, I will say that I will try to put up some posts sometimes.
I sound like a politician, don't I?
I have started another blog for the preteen girls and will continue to have both of them, but I promised to have one post a week up on that one, so hopefully, I will get a schedule together and get posts on each blog once a week at least!
We shall see, right?
The boys are doing great. Jeffrey has finally started reading pretty well. Maybe his front teeth were hindering him. He lost three teeth this month and has started reading like a champ. I am sure one thing has something to do with the other :-) He has an amazing grasp of math concepts and is starting second grade books on Tuesday. He roars through each math book with a fierce desire to master each concept. It is not unusual for him to start a new chapter on his own while I am busy with one of the other boys. This boy amazes me!
Michael has finished ANOTHER science book. I can't believe how quickly he whizzes through them. He reads science and retains information from it at such a high level! It is amazing. In addition to school science books, he receives 3 different monthly science magazines AND we just started getting Creation Illustrated and he reads that too! The boy is astonishing! He and his dad have also started polishing rocks, which takes just short of FOREVER. They are becoming familiar with all kinds of rocks and loving every minute of it. Hooray for them, I actually could care less, I just like the pink ones :) I really enjoy their excitement. It is contagious. I think that one of the favorite things on our vacation was sifting for "gems" and trying to match the ones that we found with the chart that we were given. Now that I did enjoy. I love to file and categorize, so it was right up my alley.
Jordan amazes me. He has picked up on all of his letters and numbers so quickly. He will be 5 this November and I am going to start him on the book that Jeffrey is just about finished with in about a month. I think that he will be reading pretty soon. He is so excited to do school each and every day. His attention sometimes wanders, but he stays rather diligent and focused for a 4 year old. He already has basic math figured out and is well on his way to figuring out the sounds attached to each letter. I am just as excited to see him read as I have been with each of the other boys, but frankly I will be thankful when he can read by himself. When we started homeschooling I was scared about teaching them to read. I had no confidence in myself or my teaching abilities. A wise woman at our church told me one day that if I can teach them to talk, walk and use the potty, I would have no problem teaching them to read. I believed her, but was still hesitant about the whole thing. All three of them go about learning in a different way, so I have had to adjust with each child. If I can get the last one to read, I feel like I will really have accomplished something.
That is about it. Well, not really. Riky has been putting in 50+ hour weeks and still has had time to start sheeting the roof of the garage. I even had to climb the ladder (again), but one side is almost finished and it actually looks like progress again. I would post some pix, but my memory card was full from our vacation still and I had to dump that before I could take more pix. I will get some soon and get them up here.
That is it.
