This was the coolest gift, both to give and to receive! The boys and I heard about a place here in Billings called Chameleon Ceramic Studio. It is an all inclusive studio with no additional fees for paints or firing. There is also no time limit, except for the hours of operation :)
How It Works
- You pick out your pottery piece- we chose a pizza plate. ($21)
- Plan your design- She showed us ideas from books and also helped up sketch ideas onto the plate (because I am artistically challenged)
- Choose your colors- the sky is the limit. We used 10 or 11 different colors
- Paint your heart out. We were there for about 2 hours. There is a play area for when the detail work is not as fun as painting your hand. Jeffrey and Jordan checked it out, but Michael was a die hard!
- The worst part- you have to wait a week to get go pick up your piece. The finished product looks different than when you left it. The colors are brighter, and it is just COOL
We will be going back. Lots. I am going to take my camera along next time to get more of the studio and the process. It was fabulous. Riky loved the plate, of course and hung it in a place of honor below his antlers in the entry way. It is the first thing that you see when you come into the house.
Fabulous!

Very nice! Sounds like fun. :)
I took a class in ceramics many moons ago. It is truly tons of fun. I didn't like the waiting to get the stuff back either. The plate is so cool. Would like to see it sometime.
