There Will Be No Baking This Year

At this rate, there will be no baking at my house. Not even of dinner. For quite some time.

So, I have discovered this wonderful way to revamp candles that have burned crooked or have some wax left in the bottom, but the wick is spent. You can bake a candle at 150 degrees for about 20-30 minutes (sometimes more) and the entire thing will go back to liquid. I recently rescued a fall candle that had been stored in the shed and had melted from the heat of summer. Who would have thought of that? It was on it's side when I found it and half empty. So, I popped it into the oven and ~~viola~~(or however you would type that French word) an hour, and one wick rigging contraption later I have a perfect candle.

I tried to repeat this fantastic process on a beloved vanilla Christmas candle. Apparently all things are not created equal. Take my memory on any given day. Apparently--it's not consistent. Also, all candle holders are not the same. Apparently tin is different than glass. It seems to have...well...seams. Which, when heated do not behave like one solid piece of glass.

So, what I have is:
  • one candle, baked at 150 for 1 1/2 hours
  • one tin whose seams let loose
  • wax all over the bottom of my oven
  • 3 hours of waiting for the wax to cool
  • 45 minutes of scraping wax off the bottom of my oven
  • an oven that smokes-still- a week later
  • a house that smells like someone just blew out a candle
  • I kept my oven on at 350 ALL NIGHT last night
  • with the exhaust fan on
  • I have a feeling that my casserole is still going to smell and taste waxy for the Christmas party
  • Give me a break
  • please
