Last weekend Riky took us to the Corn Maize. Now, I don't know if other places have these or not. Montana may be the only state that has one.
Not all parts of our country could pull this type of entertainment off, though. Only the states that have tall crops as one of their industries. You couldn't have as much fun in an onion field, or picking your way past soy beans. Potatoes wouldn't work. And for those states that produce dairy products as their main industry...Good luck getting those cows to stand still. Now that I think about it, the places where forestry is the main industry--could do a maze. They'd have to stop chopping down trees long enough to get some tourists interested, though.
To simplify: a maze is laid out within a couple of acres of corn. Every year the design is different. This year the aerial photograph showed that it was in the shape of Montana's state seal. It is allot of fun! It takes somewhere between 1 and 2 hours to work your way through.
It all depends on how many mistakes you make. We made plenty. It took us just over an hour. This time of year the stalks are dry and lots of kids have broken them down. Man made trails have been stomped down where there should not be a path. It a-maize-s me how many people pay good money (it cost us $24) to cheat their way through a challenge! We plan to try to go next year in August or September when it is still green and before tons of people have trampled down their "cheater" paths.
There are lots of games to play after you are done with the maze. The boys went down a slide made of huge irrigation pipe, rode on a "cow" train (barrels painted to look like cows and pulled behind a 4 wheeler) There was ButterCup, Oreo, Cookie, Bossie, Bessie, SweetPea...to choose from. There was also a go-cart track for peddle cars, even Riky got in on that! You can race a rubber duck down a drain pipe using an old fashioned water hand pump. There are also these mini mazes. They are VERY challenging. It is quite humbling to try to work a maze that is 15feet by 15feet, "real quick before we have to go" and still be there a half an hour later.
Suffice it to say, we had fun. It was a little chilly, a little muddy, a little smelly (there is a petting zoo), and we all got a little dirty, but all together a great time was had by all. We figger :) that we walked about 2 miles in all! Even the Mommy had fun. I do need better footwear, but otherwise, it was great!

Sounds like lots of fun. We took the kids to one 2 years ago. We went with a group of people so it was fun, but hectic, plus we got there late, so we had to rush through everything.
I'm glad you enjoyed yourself.
