Quite Enough Excitement for One Day
We have been spending our last few Saturdays helping one of Riky's aunts move. The boys spent most of these days picking apples and then playing in the apple tree. The little boys would help in spurts and then retire to the tree for more play. Michael has been a great help with the moving process. He has enjoyed being one of the movers, and hasn't taken many breaks at all. His help today was especially tremendous. It was all getting rather monotonous sort, pack, visit, haul, stack... sort, pack, visit, haul, stack...sort, pack, visit, haul, stack... Michael's voice rings out with fire. Fire? FIRE. FIRE! All of the grown ups raced out of the house to see some of the field behind the house ON FIRE. We raced into action calling 911 and then trying to put out what we could. My ever helpful husband jumped the fence to become fireman for the day. He and his cousins did the best job that they could while frankly, I stood back and watched. The little boys along with one of their cousins surprisingly were not very interested in the whole procedure. The local volunteer fire department was radioed 3 times with no response and then a volunteer department from 8 miles away was called in. They responded quickly, but it still took about 30 minutes. All in all only about 1/2 an acre was burned and nothing of significance was in the wake of the flames. Once the "fighter fighters came to save us" all was declared under control by my 3 year old. The rest of the day was rather uneventful. Praise the Lord all were safe. But, truly I rather enjoyed the monotony after that.
