I'm no homesteader, that's for sure

I have read lots of novels about homesteading and trailblazers, the old west... I have read many accounts of how laundry used to be washed. I feel for the women of days of old with their scrub boards, homemade soaps, stirring sticks, boiling cauldrons of water...

I am not old fashioned and I praise the Lord that I was born in this day and age. Even though it seems romantic to read novels of the old west, I really do love a good washing machine and my dish washer is one of my favorite things in the world.

In the last 6 weeks we have had 4 different washing machines in our home. I have visited the laundry mat once and most frequently done this:

Jordan was excited about agitating the laundry at first. It's a good thing we use non toxic laundry detergent, or none of us would have been able to touch the water without gloves.

It's amazing how much filthy clothes a bathtub can hold...

They have lost all ambition by the time we get to whites...

This is a completely different load. Notice there are no children in sight at this point.

Hand washing does work. Michael played in a dirt pile and it was as if he didn't even wear shoes, they were so dirty.

Good thing that the bottom of our tub has some texture, or I would have had to go to an antique store to get a real scrub board.

Not too bad, if I do say so myself. (And YES, that is the same sock) It took me about 3 minutes per sock to get them this clean, though.
Each time I did a "load" of laundry, I was never sure that I would be able to stand up strait again.
Praise the Lord, I'm still upright and I found a used washer that was in my price range on Tuesday!!!
At least I know that I could survive without one, but I don't want to....

Look on the bright side... you had to wash that bathtub sometime anyway, so you killed two birds with one stone... right??
