What a difference a year can make

January 1, 2008 we had lunch with Riky's parents and Jack and Kristy we visited and laughed and had such a fun time. Then we went to Josh and Sherri's house to play games with them and Johnny and Amy, until...... I don't remember when. The entire day was wonderful. It was such a memorable day. It was very special to have friends and family and a time of fellowship with them. I thought back to that day often throughout the year. I reminded myself that 2008 had the best beginning of all of the years that Riky and I had ever had together.

Of course, I assumed that this New Year's day would also be wonderful. I set in my heart that I would pray for an hour that morning and start the year off with God. I would have a sweet time of fellowship with my Lord. All would be well with my soul.

What is it that they say about the best laid plans?

We had the flu this New Years Eve and Day. We were all asleep by 11:00 pm on the 31st and didn't wake up until almost noon on the First. I was sick enough that I didn't even wake up on the 31st until 5:00pm. Riky went to church with Michael that evening while the little boys and I slept. Then when he got home it struck him. He was asleep about 15 minutes after he walked in the door. I had to take his glasses off for him so that he didn't crush them. No one ate a thing on New Year's Day except for one orange that Jordan managed to keep down. We are finally recovered, but it's amazing how far behind a sickness can make you. I feel like I am playing catch-up and it's only January 5th.

Oh well.

That bug was unbelievably horrible. Nyquil became my new best friend, but I didn't need it to sleep incessantly. Just so I could think coherently during my short lived waking hours. I praise God for three things this year...1) for a wonderful husband who takes such good care of me, 2) for amazing parents who go way above and beyond on a daily basis, and 3) that so far, no one else in my family has caught it yet. I'm disinfecting my house today to keep it that way. :0)
