The men in our church are very vocal during sermons. Pastor frequently gets feedback which includes "Amen!", "Preach it!" "Come on!" and all the like.
It hasn't always been this way, but quite a few years ago Pastor brought it to the attention of the congregation that it made his heart happy to have the men vocalize their agreement with him and how much he enjoyed seeing nods of agreement and getting that type of validation and feedback. Well, our church loves to see our pastor happy, so now it is commonplace and it's hard to remember when it was silent during a sermon. Even our young children can be heard saying "amen" or "preach it" at times. Like Father(s), Like Son(s)
Tonight on the way home from church I had to stop at Wal Mart, so I ended up getting a can of Pringles to tide the boys over for the ride home and until I could get something for them to eat. Each of our boys has their favorite quick foods, for Jordan it's hot dogs, for Jeffrey it's peanut butter and jelly "samwiches" for Michael it's Ramen noodles.
Michael didn't want any of the Pringles tonight and was complaining of a headache and that his belly hurt. In typical mom mode, I asked him how much water he had today and when he started to feel this way... I asked him if maybe he's just hungry and thirsty. He said that he might be, but he wasn't sure. I listed some of the leftovers in the fridge that he could choose from for dinner.
He said that he was thinking of something "squishier". I told him that if he wanted Ramen noodles, all he had to do is ask and I might make them for him, but he didn't have to dance around asking for something "squishy", and then maybe something "salty"...until I guess Ramen noodles. If he wants noodles, ask for them.
He says that he was actually thinking of something more like a......
peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
Jeffrey chimes in with "Amen Brother!"
I laughed so hard that I could barely catch my breath
