Not only did we get out of the house with no children, but we had an awesome time. In a round-about way, through my cousin, we were able to get free tickets by just sending out some emails and making phone calls--which is right up my alley. We also were privileged enough to be able to meet Chonda Pierce. She is just as awesome in person as she is on stage. She is a comedienne, author, and singer. I think that she is wonderful. She thought that my hair is "gorgeous" and"so soft" and, of course, that moved her up in my book of favorites quite a bit.
It seemed that everything that came out of her mouth was funny. She talked about menopause, children, her husband and Sister-In-Law Doris ( who was an excellent piano player). She had a question and answer time and even her responses were hilarious. I don't know when I have laughed so much-and I love to laugh. At one point she was wearing a "Suds Hut" baseball cap, sitting in a camp chair provided by an audience member, eating popcorn and drinking a diet Pepsi with a microphone in one hand. On stage. As if this were a perfectly natural thing to do. She opened her act by saying "you'll never guess who is staying at my motel" Most of us knew it had to be Ozzy Osborn. It blows my mind that a fine Christian woman and Ozzy Osborn would ever be in the same place at the same time, but they had breakfast in the same dinning room. This is the world that we live in, I guess. Astounding! Her SIL Doris didn't even know who Ozzy was, bless her heart. I hope that my children grow up as sheltered. Never knowing the likes of Kid Rock, Britney Spears, Eminem, nor having ever heard the sultry twang of Shania Twain --and Paris will just be a place in France to them. I pray this is reality for my sons.
Sorry, got off on a little tangent there. If I decide to ever take this blog public, I will probably have to change that last part, but for now it is just those of you who know me or who know someone who knows me... so, I'll leave it.
Anyhoo. Back to Chonda. The woman has had a tough life and has placed her faith in the Lord and is standing on his promises. She is amazing to me.
Such an inspiration.
I have no right to be depressed or discouraged after hearing her testimony. I am ashamed that I sometimes get so self-absorbed as to think that I have problems. She has been through so much, and yet she was up on stage making me laugh. With a Genuine Smile on her face. Genuine Love in her heart for God. Genuinely Willing to serve others in so many ways. She is truly an inspiration. I have always enjoyed her comedy and now I will listen with better ears on knowing that she has risen up out of such muck and mire.
So. I had a great time. I will never forget it and I am ever thankful to Riky and Josh for making it possible to ditch 8 children and get away. Next stop: Pennsylvania Amish Country.
Probably not, but I want to go and Riky doesn't and that was what made him so receptive to babysitting (now-- is it really babysitting if it is your own children?) and me taking Sherri instead of him.
It's worth a shot. (?) maybe?

Sherri wrote about the event also. You can read her post by clicking here.

You covered it so much better than I did. I enjoyed reading about it as if I hadn't been there. LOL Weird I know. Oh well.
Nice picture! Oh, and what's the deal with having so many hits on our blogs, but almost no comments to show for them?
We're going to have to kick it up a notch I guess?? Honestly, though I don't think I can do much better without going public. Sigh.
