Just three little words can make a relationship sound and secure in the Lord or can build bitterness and strife in your life. I have been thinking how much three word phrases make all of the difference in so many of our relationships.
I Love You can soothe so many hurts. These words spoken in a tender whisper can calm the wildest temper, fix a broken heart, make an owie all better, mend a torn relationship, stir up great passion, move thoughts to great distraction, make a person "giddy", and change a heart's desire.
I Am Sorry can heal a broken heart, mend a wounded pride, bridge an emotional chasm, close the ranks of brotherhood, bring two people into one accord, allow there to be an agreement to disagree, knit two hearts together, close the open wounds of bitterness, proves ones strength of character, shows that one is truly under the leading of God, shows compassion.
You Are Forgiven shows the love of Christ shining though you, love and concern for others, compassion, strength of character, growth in a Christian, is always the will of God, is life altering, is attitude changing, is a mature response to those who have wronged you, is beneficial to both the giver and the receiver, can be just as glorious to the heart as hearing I Love You for the first time, can bring tears to the eyes of even the hard hearted.
I Thank You shows maturity, respect, courtesy, kindness, compassion, thoughtfulness, encourages faithfulness, trust, longevity of relationships, patience, love, strength of character.
There are so many adjectives that can be interjected into these phrases to make them even more powerful. Truly, deeply, wholeheartedly, madly, completely, emphatically, really, sincerely, faithfully, humbly, dearly...
I am sure that I will add to this list as the days go by. I am learning that real growth in the Lord is measured by one's ability to say and live these words. I hope that I am never viewed as ungrateful, unthankful, unloving, unlovely, unthoughtful, inconsiderate, or not compassionate. Lord, instill in me a heart that you would be proud to look upon. This I pray this day and every day forth.
