For those of you who know me, you know that I have just barely tolerated wrestling season. Talk about a labor of love. Riky loves wrestling, the boys and I love him. So we wrestle. If Riky announced that we were done wrestling, WOW, would there be rejoicing in our home! But for now (and maybe forever) we must die to ourselves and learn to enjoy pleasing Daddy. And we do. It has taken years, but we truly do enjoy Riky's excitement, his love for the sport is...maybe contagious is not the word, but it's close. We love for that man to be happy! It's a blessing to us to be a blessing to him. It is amazing how God has worked in my heart over the years.
I was able to enjoy our trip to Great Falls in spite of:
- We decided to take our old microwave to save on food costs. I wasn't thinking, though, so instead of shopping when we got there, I shopped at home before we left. Ordinarily this would have been no problem, but my van is in the shop and the Suburban has a short somewhere that causes there to be no tail lights. Consequently, we had to take the car. There was not enough room in the trunk for all of the things that I bought, so we had to use the interior of the car, not only for us, but also for our luggage. Talk about crowded!
- I am the only one in my family that enjoys Chinese food, so I microwaved a cute little tub of shrimp fried rice for my dinner on Friday. I got food poisoning and almost didn't go to the tournament because of it.
- Jordan had a scrape on his arm from roughhousing Wednesday night after church and we were out of band-aids. We went to Walmart on our way home for him to pick out his own band-aids and to pick up a few last minute things. Although we almost never let the boys have Sponge Bob stuff, I do every now and then because my dad LOVED Sponge Bob, so everything Sponge Bob reminds them of Grandpa, and I want to keep those memories fresh in their minds. Jordan picked out Sponge Bob band-aids and we applied them Friday night after his old ones were loosened by the pool water. Saturday when we went swimming Jordan kept complaining that his scrape hurt. I didn't think too much about it until Sponge Bob started to come unglued. That is when we discovered that wherever the adhesive was, Jordan had a pussy blister. It was torture getting the second band-aid off of his arm. Especially after I knew that he wasn't just saying that it hurt. I knew that those blisters had to burn. Poor thing. No more Sponge Bob band-aids for him.
**after I told him that what happened was an allergic reaction to the glue, or to the glue and the pool water together, he said "finally, I'm allergic to something!"
- We had a super hard time finding the church that we were going to. We ended up asking for directions at a gas station and looking it up in the phone book, then still not finding it until 5 minutes after service had started. Keep in mind that if my husband isn't 10 minutes early, he already thinks that he is late. I am the navigator for all trips that we take and I am usually better at mapping things out. I ordinarily have a folder with map quested directions and driving directions to where we are going. This trip I had give another woman detailed directions, so my computer time was limited. On the way to church was the only time all weekend that we had any words that weren't pleasantly spoken.
- When we got on the road to go home I started gathering up all of the papers that had blown off of the dash when both doors were opened in the wind. I discovered that I did indeed map quest directions to Heritage Baptist Church. And then promptly forgot that I did it. Oopsy - Doopsy
- We started to smell sulfur. Similar to traveling through Thermopolis, or Yellowstone, or White Sulfur Springs. Every time we drive somewhere Sulfur-y I get sick to my stomach. We could not escape the smell, either. When we got out at the gas station, it was there until we went inside. When we stopped at a grocery store for snacks, it was there. We started to speculate that maybe there was some sort of eruption at Yellowstone Park. It was BAD. BAD-BAD. Really bad. I actually tucked my face into my shirt and went to sleep to try to calm my still sensitive stomach (see point #1) When we pulled into the gas station here in Billings, Riky shut off the car and ~POOF~ the smell was gone. When we drove to our church, it was back. It was the CAR! We have no clue what the problem was, but I am hoping that it was the fuel that we got in Great Falls. Otherwise, it may continue! We haven't driven the car since, so we can't tell for sure.
In spite of everything, we had a great time.
There was tons of laughter and lots of fun.
*Oh, and the boys did pretty well wrestling, too. They both wrestled hard and didn't give up, even when they were loosing. The both won some of their matches, but ultimately didn't place very high. No biggie.
