4:34am Jeffrey ~~ "Mommy, Jordan threw up on me"
Riky and I both shoot out of bed to take care of the mess. Ordinarily Riky would moan and roll over, but he has been off for a few weeks now and had been pitching in on all of the parenting. Even this.
4:50am everyone is cleaned up, I start a load of laundry and come back upstairs to Riky grabbing a blanket out of the closet. Who's sleeping on the couch? Riky Two warm little boys are curled up in our bed.
4:55am I sneak to the closet to grab a blanket of my own for the other couch without disturbing the boys.
4:55and 30 seconds Jeffrey~~ "Mommy can one of you sleep with us?"
I look longingly at the empty couch and see Riky shrink down a little further under his blanket.
5:06am "Sure, I can." I grab Jordan a garbage can and scoot him to edge of the bed. He spends a few minutes explaining to me why we need to leave the light on. He isn't sure that he will hit the bucket if we turn out the lights. "All you have to do is say my name and I will touch the touch lamp right away."
5:43am Jordan~~ "M...o...mm.....y" Boom, the light was on at "M..." False alarm
6:08am Jordan~~"M....o...mm....y" again, the light is on at "M...." No such luck this time. The sound that follows my name is one that will never be mistaken for another. Every adult that I know jumps out of bed at that sound. Every. Single. Time. Yet Jeffrey sleeps right through -unaffected.
Maybe it should be an alarm clock option. For those really tough nights when you need to hit the floor running.
